who are we?
The Los Alamos Tuff Riders (LATR) is an IMBA Chapter located in the beautiful mesas of Los Alamos, NM. Los Alamos is located on a geological formation called the Pajarito Plateau. The plateau is capped by a special type of rock called Bandelier Tuff comprised of compressed and crystalized volcanic ash deposited by the eruptions of the near by Valle Grande Caldera roughly 1.61 million years ago.
So don't be fooled! The "Tuff" in our name comes from the type of rock we ride on; not because we're "tough". In fact, we take great pride in welcoming riders of all ages and skill levels!
Most of the trails and dirt roads of the Pajarito Plateau are carved on Bandelier Tuff. We think that it provides a fun and challenging mountain biking terrain!
Weekly rides
Every Tuesday and Thursday (weather permitting) @ 5:30PM from Sullivan Field parking lot.
All skill levels are invited to join and we are happy to show newcomers around the 75mi of trail Los Alamos has to offer.
Riding season is generally between early May and late September depending on snow.
Monthly BBQ rides
Pedal with us on our monthly Cook Out ride, Explore local routes before capping it off with a well-earned BBQ feast. Ride hard, eat well, and hang out with good company!
These events are BYOB, and if you want, come with your favorite side dish to share.
