Tuff Tykes is a youth mountain biking community built by Los Alamos families who wanted their kids to spend more time outside—riding, exploring, and growing together.
What began as weekend rides with friends has grown into a vibrant community dedicated to helping kids build confidence, resilience, and connection through outdoor adventure.

A few years ago, Turin and Kyle Dickman’s kids—then ages 5 and 6—needed riding buddies. So we invited a handful of friends to meet up for casual weekend bike rides. Word spread fast. Kids showed up. Parents pitched in. Before long, those small rides turned into a wheeled community.
The goal of each ride is to empower kids by giving them the opportunity to assess and learn from small risks while building lasting friendships—on and off the bike.

Striders and Mac Riders are welcome.
Helmets are required. We love full-face and MIPS-equipped helmets for extra protection.
Parents: please plan to ride with your kids—and wear your helmets too.
Don’t forget:
More rides and events coming soon, including three NICA-led kids bike camps (six 1.5 hour sessions each).
Most Tuff Tykes coordination happens on Facebook. That’s where families share ride plans, updates, and last-minute logistics.
